A séance conducted by the local clairvoyant, Madame Arcati at a dinner party at the home of Charles Condomine brings back the ghost of Elvira, his first wife, whom he loved dearly but who died several years ago. This causes confusions with his current wife, Ruth, who enlists Madame Arcati to send the spirit back to where she came from. emotion, and wit to great effect.
